Baptism

It is one of the three Sacraments of Initiation – Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. The Sacrament of Baptism is the first step in a lifelong journey of commitment and discipleship. Whether we are baptized as infants or adults, Baptism is the Church’s way of celebrating and enacting the embrace of God. Jesus’ immersion in the water is a sign for all human beings of the need to die to themselves to do God’s will. Jesus did not need to be baptized because he was totally faithful to the will of his Father and free from sin. However, he wanted to show his solidarity with human beings in order to reconcile them to the Father.

The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated monthly except during the Lenten season. Arrangements are made by contacting Fr. George before the birth of the child. Baptismal catechesis is required of all parents. A member of the Baptism Preparation Ministry will contact the parents prior to the Baptism.

Anyone interested in becoming a Roman Catholic becomes part of the Rite of Christian Initiation (RCIA) or any adult Catholic who has not received all the Sacraments of Initiation – Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. For more information see the website under RCIA.
